Gold trades between $3,985 and $4,031 after a decline during the Asian session to $3,986, and it will most likely consolidate toward the $4,031 zone. The metal has recovered about $40 from the session low, but the bounce has run into the first layer of resistance on the 15-minute chart. A full reversal needs a close above $4,044, where the 200-period average now sits.

Key Levels
- Resistance 3: $4,110 – $4,120, the supply zone that capped the October 21 and 22 rallies
- Resistance 2: $4,044, the 200-period SMA, sloping lower
- Resistance 1: $4,032.5, the channel resistance line and the upper edge of the band
- Spot: $4,026.5, up 0.38% on the 15-minute bar
- Support 1: $4,014 – $4,015.5, the 5 and 10-period averages
- Support 2: $3,998, the lower band
- Support 3: $3,986, the Asian session low
Catalyst of the Day
The flash PMI releases for the eurozone, UK and US are the main event risk. The US readings land at 4:45pm (UTC+3), with the manufacturing index forecast at 55.4 against 55.9 previously and services forecast at 57.9 against 58.8. Both are expected to cool, so a print that holds near the prior level would lift the dollar and press on gold, while a miss would give the rebound room above $4,032. Revised University of Michigan sentiment and inflation expectations follow at 5:00pm.
Fundamental Context
Gold has lost roughly $155 since the October 22 high near $4,142, with most of the damage done in a steady grind lower through the European and US sessions. Early data today was soft in the Asia-Pacific region. Australian flash services PMI dropped to 47.8 from 51.9, and UK GfK consumer confidence fell to -24 against a forecast of -14. Japan’s flash manufacturing PMI came in at 53.3, below the 54.5 forecast, while national core CPI held at 2.1%.
The weak regional prints have not produced a bid in gold on their own. Price spent the early session under pressure and only found buyers near $3,986. The prior move lower and the test of support are covered in the earlier note, Gold slides to $4,086 as XAU/USD tests support before London, and the market has since broken through the levels discussed there.
European and UK flash PMIs are due before the US open. The eurozone composite readings are forecast near 52.6 in services and 52.7 in manufacturing, and a clear miss would feed through to dollar direction ahead of the New York releases.
Chart Analysis
On the 15-minute chart, spot formed a sharp low near $3,986 in the Asian session and recovered quickly, with the latest candle closing at $4,026.5 near its high. Price is back above the 5 and 10-period averages at $4,014 and $4,015.5, which have flattened and turned up. The next obstacle is the channel resistance at $4,032.5, where the upper band also sits. The 200-period SMA at $4,044 has fallen steadily since the October 22 session and still points down, so the broader structure remains a sequence of lower highs and lower lows. The supply zone at $4,110 – $4,120 is well above spot and is the level that rejected price twice this week.
Bull / Bear Scenarios
Bullish
A 15-minute close above $4,032.5 opens a move to the 200-period SMA at $4,044. A softer US flash PMI could carry that test, and a break above $4,044 would put the first lower high of the decline at risk. Dips toward $4,014 – $4,015 that hold would keep the rebound intact.
Bearish
A rejection at $4,032.5 followed by a loss of $4,014 returns price to the $3,998 lower band. A stronger-than-expected US PMI would favor this path. A break under $3,998 exposes the $3,986 low again, and a close below it would extend the decline that began on October 22.
